KUCHING: Sime Darby Foundation is set to continue implementing various initiatives in Sarawak across multiple industries, benefiting communities throughout the region.

Its chairman Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, said that to date, the foundation has channeled RM60 million to Sarawak through its efforts, with significant contributions from Sime Darby (SD) Guthrie, Sime Darby Berhad, and Sime Darby Property.

“Through this foundation, we have allocated RM60 million to Sarawak, focusing on education, environmental conservation, community health, sports, as well as arts and culture.

“These areas are what we call our ‘core pillars,’” he said.

He said this when met with reporters after paying a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Menara Pelita today (Jan 27).

He added that Sarawak has great potential for collaboration with various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals actively working at the community level.

He also expressed the foundation’s desire to continue partnering with NGOs by providing funding and contributing to Sarawak’s communities.

“Afterward, they can become self-reliant and proceed with further projects. Sarawak indeed has vast potential.

“We are confident that the communities here will respond very positively,” he said.

Present were members of the Sime Darby Foundation Governance Council Datuk Dr Rashidah Bolhassan, Sime Darby Foundation chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Yatela Zainal Abidin, and Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs Muzdalifah Mohd Nasir.
