KUCHING: Sarawak’s women are called to embrace technology and digital transformation to remain effective pillars of the family institution as lifestyles, education systems and societal needs continue to evolve.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the role of women is no longer limited to managing households, but also requires them to understand new approaches that have become part of daily life, including the use of digital devices and technology in children’s education.
He said students today use iPads and smart boards in schools, unlike in the past when learning relied on blackboards and chalk.
“In the past, I went to Daro and saw that schools there were already using smart boards. This means parents, especially women, need to understand these new methods so they can guide their children,” he said.
He said this when delivering his address at the 2026 Sarawak Women’s Day celebration at Pullman Hotel here on Sunday.
Abang Johari said the government continues to provide infrastructure to support digital transformation, which can improve the quality of life for the people and elevate living standards towards becoming an advanced state.
He explained that changes in the way people live, including those in rural areas, demonstrate the need for women to master technology and new approaches in managing daily life and educating the next generation.
Therefore, he said the Sarawak government would continue to provide the necessary infrastructure and ecosystem to help the people improve their standard of living, in line with the aspiration of making Sarawak an advanced and high-income state by 2030.
Meanwhile, he also recognised the significant contributions of women in leading various key sectors in Sarawak, including the economy, administration and strategic organisations.
In this regard, he said leadership training and capacity building must continue to be strengthened to produce more women capable of leading organisations and contributing to the state’s development.
