KUCHING: The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) calls on the committee members of its 21 constituent members and young entrepreneur members across Sarawak to volunteer for disaster relief and post-flood recovery efforts, assisting those affected by the disaster.
ACCCIS president Kong Chiong Ung said providing essential supplies to those in need, and supporting relevant government agencies in responding more effectively to the crisis.
“We expressed our deepest sympathies to the victims affected by the recent floods and extends heartfelt condolences to the families who have suffered losses.
“We are deeply concerned about the situation and acknowledges that the most challenging phase will be the post-flood cleanup and rebuilding efforts.
“Disasters are ruthless, but humanity is compassionate,” he said in a statement.
He also appreciates both the federal and Sarawak governments for their generous assistance measures.
“The federal government has allocated RM24 million for Sarawak and Sabah, while the Sarawak government has allocated RM10 million, to repair flood-damaged infrastructure, provide relief assistance and support post-disaster recovery efforts.
“Additionally, ACCCIS welcomes the initiatives taken by major commercial banks in offering various forms of assistance to flood-affected customers, particularly the six-month payment deferment, which will help alleviate financial burdens during this challenging time,” he said.
He will continue to closely keep track of the situation across Sarawak, urging all sectors of society to lend a helping hand and contribute towards supporting the affected communities, helping them overcome these hardships during the time of crisis.
