KUCHING: As severe weather disrupts communities across Sarawak, Hope Place mobilised relief efforts to ensure essential supplies reach displaced residents and stranded villagers.

Hope Place recently supported seven flood centres, with three in Kuching, Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) Sejijak, PPS Segedup, and PPS Batu Kawa; four in Samarahan, PPS Endap, PPS Kampung Nangka, PPS Entingan And PPS Kampung Niup.

According to a media statement, the NGO’s volunteers were on the ground, even on the first day of Chinese New Year, ensuring relief reached those in need and concluded on the third day.

Hope Place distributed essential items such as children’s milk powder, baby diapers, women’s sanitary pads, and biscuits to displaced victims in the relief centres.

A total of over 50 packets of milk powder, and more than 20 packs of diapers were distributed out along with bottled drinking water and assorted biscuits to the Civil Defence Force (APM), which led the operations at the flood centres.

Meanwhile, they also extended its aid efforts to Kampung Assum in Puncak Borneo, where a landslide completely cut off the only access road on Jan 27, leaving villagers running out of food supplies.

Hope Place’s founder, Kelvin Wan, personally delivered temporary food aid including rice, dry noodles, biscuits, and cooking oil to Bagok Kadoi, who represented the village head of Kampung Assum and 41 families affected by the incident.

Hope Place or Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK), continues to seek donations to support its humanitarian efforts; and to members of the public who wish to contribute can contact 082 505 987 or 013 567 2775.

Donations can be made directly to the NGO’s Maybank account (MBB: 5112 8900 1160) or through Sarawak Pay / S PAY GLOBAL QR code, which is available on their Facebook page.
