SAMARAHAN: University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) reaffirmed its dedication to integrity and transparency during the ‘ Unimas Integrity Address 2025’, held at the Arena Gemilang, DeTAR Putra.

The event’s theme ‘Inclusivity in Sustainability’ emphasises Unimas’ commitment to fostering a corruption-free academic environment while upholding the principles of good governance and ethical leadership.

According to Unimas vice-chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, Unimas strives to develop skilled, holistic graduates who drive national progress, recognising that excellence requires collective commitment from all stakeholders, including public servants in governance and administration.

“Our goal is to produce graduates who are not only highly educated but also skilled, holistic, and capable of driving the national economy through innovation, research, and competency development so that Malaysia’s higher education system remains competitive at the national level.

“However, excellence in an organisation or nation cannot be achieved without a collective commitment and collaboration from all stakeholders.

“Every public servant plays a critical role in the administration of the government and institutions,” he said during the event on Thursday (Feb 6).

The event also highlighted the government’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts, including the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP* and its successor, the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024–2028, which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched in May 2024, NACS aims to fortify Malaysia’s governance through five key pillars which are Education, Public Accountability, Citizen Engagement, Law Enforcement, and Incentives.

Additionally, Prof Ahmad Hata said the NACS aligns Malaysia with global anti-corruption standards under UNCAC, leveraging collaboration with MACC to strengthen governance and establish a corruption-free, integrity-driven nation.

“The launch of NACS aligns Malaysia with global anti-corruption efforts under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), ensuring the nation adopts international best practices in combating corruption.

“Through collaborative synergy with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), NACS will reinforce national governance to prevent corruption, paving the way for Malaysia to become an integrity-driven and corruption-free country.”

Furthermore, he said a key highlight of the event was the near-final Organisational Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP), aimed at strengthening integrity, transparency, stakeholder confidence, and operational efficiency.

By reducing the risk of corruption, the organisation can better identify, prevent, and manage risks related to corrupt practices.

Additionally, he noted that it would strengthen stakeholder confidence, including that of clients, investors, and the general public.

OACP Unimas is also expected to help reduce resource wastage and financial leakages caused by unethical practices.

Also in attendance at the event was deputy secretary-general (policy) of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Datuk Dr Megat Sany Megat Ahmad Supian.
