KUCHING: Immediate action has been taken to address the recent landslide affecting the Bintulu LPG terminal.

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said that this to ensure uninterrupted supply of subsidised LPG cylinders for domestic consumers and non-subsidised LPG cylinders for commercial consumers across Sarawak.

“PETROSNiaga has activated its contingency Business Continuity Plan and has redirected the LPG supply from the PUSAKA Integrated Resources Sdn Bhd (PIRSB) to Senari IOT Kuching facility.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and we will continue to provide updates as the situation develops,” he said in a statement.

Julaihi explained that Bintulu recently suffered unprecedented flooding after several days of continuous heavy rainfall – the worst recorded in Bintulu history.

“The extreme weather conditions triggered a landslide on a hill behind the LPG Terminal of PIRSB and a water storage tank, under Bintulu Port Authority (BPA), located at the top of the hill.

“PIRSB, in coordination with BPA, has commenced work to stabilise the site and implement necessary repair and recovery measures,” he said.

He added ongoing and continuous assessments are being carried out and once the site is deemed safe, repair and operations at the terminal will resume.
