MIRI: Nearly four tonnes of food supplies arrived in Miri from Subang last Friday for delivery to victims of the recent floods in Miri and Bekenu.
This vital humanitarian initiative was a collaboration between the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) Miri Branch and Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia (YFBM).
The initiative is part of the larger Sarawak Flood Mission, which sees the convergence of support from various entities to ensure that assistance reaches the most vulnerable.
The YFBM team had arrived in Miri to dispense aid under the Zakat Tabung Haji Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The provisions comprised Ready-to-Eat Food (RTEF), dry food items, and essential cleaning supplies, which were distributed to residents of Kampung Ranchah-Ranchah, Kampung Rambai, Kampung Tengah Bekenu, and Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu. The food aid benefited nearly 200 heads of households (KIR).
The food supplies were transported via a C130H logistics communication aircraft from No. 14 Squadron, TUDM.
The aircraft departed from Subang Air Base, delivering the supplies to Kuching and Miri before distribution to flood-affected areas.
The aircraft was piloted by Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Amir Alias of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) and the mission included assistant director of the Maritime Operations Coordination Branch (CPOM APMM), and YFBM chief operating officer, Puteri Fazlieznoor Yahaya, accompanied by two YFBM staff members.
Mohammad Hafidz Rohani, chairman of DUBS Miri branch, expressed the organisation’s gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia.
“We are honoured to contribute to this effort to assist flood victims. DUBS Miri is steadfast in its commitment to conducting welfare programmes through the DUBSCARES initiative. Previously, DUBSCARES successfully extended aid to over 400 heads of households across Miri, Bekenu, and Niah,” he stated.
