SIBU: Second-hand goods traders in the district have been urged to work closely with the police to curb crimes related to the theft of scrapped materials.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili made the call during a briefing and dialogue session with traders at Wisma Pengaman, Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) on Tuesday.

The programme aimed to provide information on licensing requirements for second-hand goods businesses and raise awareness about theft involving scrapped materials.

Zulkipli called upon the traders to report any suspicious items received to the police and assist with investigations as their cooperation is crucial in tackling such crimes.

The session began with an explanation on licensing by Insp Wan Mashor Wan Hashim, followed by a briefing from Insp Andrew Umdum Al Isa of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

Also present were heads of divisions from Sibu IPD.
