LAWAS: The Trusan Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) will see the construction of 59 affordable housing units here.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this project involves an area of 7.5 hectares or 18.53 acres.
It is one of the government’s initiatives to increase access to quality and affordable housing for local residents.
He explained that for Phase 1, a total of 15 housing units will be built using Industrialised Building System (IBS) technology which promises more efficient and quality construction.
“Construction is scheduled to begin in March this year and is expected to be completed within nine months.
“This project is in line with the government’s desire to create a settlement complete with modern infrastructure such as paved roads, concrete drains and utility facilities, to ensure the well-being of the residents,” he said during the launching of the SPK Trusan Affordable Housing, here today.
He added that the Sarawak Government is also planning to redevelop the Trusan Bazaar as part of the Urban Renewal Programme to revive the local economic centre.
He explained that among the main components that will be implemented include the development of a new Trusan Sub-District Office, a commercial area including shops, stalls and guests, Anjung Usahawan for small traders, government quarters as well as a new landscape that will become a landmark for the area.
“We want to see Trusan grow rapidly with better facilities, benefiting the residents and attracting more visitors,” he said.
Apart from that, he said the government has also identified at least nine families who need to be given a new settlement in the area as part of the Trusan Bazaar redevelopment efforts.
“To date, the government has implemented 81 SPK and HPS projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), with the provision of 7,925 land lots and an allocation of over RM1.436 billion.
“In Lawas alone, there are eight village expansion schemes, including the Kampung Long Tuan Expansion Scheme in Trusan, which has been approved under the People’s Project, and will be operated by the Land Development and Conservation Authority (LCDA),” he said.
Awang Tengah also stressed that the government will ensure that each approved project is implemented as soon as possible to benefit more Sarawakians, in line with the state’s development vision.
