SIBU: The annual Majlis Iftar Jamaie in Sibu Jaya once again brought together people from all walks of life in a communal breaking of fast.
The programme welcomed both Muslim and non-Muslim residents.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) chief executive officer Fathi Hambali said the event was more than just an occasion to break fast.
“It is a symbol of togetherness and the strong bond within our community,” he said in his speech at the event at Masjid Al-Madinatul Husna last night.

On the development of Sibu Jaya, Fathi acknowledged the significant role played by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in its transformation.
“When he held the position of Minister of Housing, Abang Johari outlined a transformation plan for Sibu Jaya, turning it into a rapidly growing twin township and a new growth centre for Sibu.
“This vision was realised through HDCam, a joint venture between HDC and Amcorp Properties Berhad as the landowner, with Amcorp Sibu Jaya Sdn Bhd acting as the main developer.
“Since 1995, this initiative has transformed the landscape of Sibu Jaya, making it a modern, competitive and rapidly expanding community,” he added.
Regarding Masjid Al-Madinatul Husna, Fathi noted that its Defect Liability Period (DLP) ended in October 2024, and the mosque’s management is currently handled by its committee, led by Shamsol Mostapha.
To ensure systematic and sustainable management, he suggested the establishment of a Mosque Trust Board (Lembaga Amanah Masjid).
“We also hope that the local community can come together to contribute to efforts in prospering the mosque, making it a place that is always vibrant with religious and community activities,” he added.
At the programme, Fathi also witnessed the handover of a donation by AmCorp Properties chief executive officer Azlan Baqee Abdullah, to the mosque.
