MIRI: Residents of Kampung Lereng Bukit are calling on the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to provide a clear response regarding the cash assistance they were promised following the devastating landslide on Jan 28.

One of the affected residents, Awang Mohidi Awang Alam, voiced his frustration over the prolonged wait for the RM1,000 aid, which was supposed to be distributed to those impacted.

“We submitted all the necessary forms since Jan 28, listing all affected households in the village,” he said when met at a breaking-of-fast event organised by Miri Technical College, last night (Mar 15).

“However, until now, we have not received any financial aid from NADMA, nor have we been given any updates. The villagers keep asking about the status of the assistance, but there is no clear development. For those who have followed up, we still receive no answers. We don’t even know whom to approach anymore because NADMA does not have an office in Miri.”

According to Awang Mohidi, a total of 13 houses were affected by the landslide, and all of them had applied for NADMA’s assistance.

“We urgently need a definite response from NADMA so that we are not left in uncertainty. The financial aid is crucial for us, especially to rebuild our damaged homes,” he stressed.

On January 28, a landslide struck Kampung Lereng Bukit following continuous heavy rain, causing severe damage to 13 homes.

Many residents were forced to evacuate and seek temporary shelter.

Authorities had assured that financial aid would be provided to affected households to help them recover from the disaster. However, nearly two months later, villagers are still waiting for the promised assistance.
