KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has expressed support for Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (UNIMAS) initiatives to strengthen its academic and research excellence.
Wan Junaidi, who is also the university’s Chancellor, welcomed the university’s plans during a courtesy visit by UNIMAS’ top management at the Astana Negeri Sarawak today (Mar 17).
These plans include the establishment of a Faculty of Law, the publication of a book on the history of Astana Negeri Sarawak, and the proposal for a historical research chair focusing on Sarawak’s past.
The delegation, led by UNIMAS Board of Directors chairman Tan Sri Sulong Matjeraie, also extended an official invitation for Wan Junaidi to deliver the Chancellor’s Lecture at the university.
Other matters discussed included the development of the Azman Hashim Digital Gallery and Convention Centre, funded by philanthropist Tan Sri Azman Hashim.
As such, Wan Junaidi commended UNIMAS’ efforts and expressed hope that the university would continue to thrive as a leading institution in higher education and research, contributing to the advancement of Sarawak and the nation.
