KUCHING: The collaboration between governments, industries and financial institutions is vital in fostering a robust carbon market ecosystem, says Datuk Dr. Hazland Hipni.
The Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability said that the role of carbon markets is critical in accelerating emissions reduction.
Sarawak is keen to explore innovative mechanisms that promote sustainable business practices while unlocking economic potential.
“We must work together to develop transparent policies, reliable measurement standards, and effective carbon credit mechanisms that drive real impact in emissions reduction.

“Our efforts in forest conservation, peatland restoration, and reforestation projects align with global climate action goals and contribute to enhancing carbon sequestration.
“The push for hydrogen as a clean energy source, along with the investments in large-scale hydropower projects, will significantly reduce carbon footprint and support the region’s clean energy transition,” he said.
He said this in a press conference on the upcoming Asia Carbon Conference (ACC) 2025 at Baitulmakmur building here today.
Dr. Hazland added that Sarawak is deeply committed to achieving a sustainable, low-carbon economy while ensuring balanced economic growth and environmental stewardship.
“Through our Sarawak Post-2030 Development Strategy, we have identified sustainability as a core pillar in transforming our economy into one that is resilient, green and inclusive.
“To support this transition, Sarawak has embarked on ambitious initiatives such as carbon trading, nature-based solutions, hydrogen economy development, and large-scale renewable energy projects,” he said.
Earlier, after officially launching the ACC 2025, Dr. Hazland said that the conference will bring together thought leaders, policymakers, industry experts and stakeholders dedicated to shaping the future of carbon management and sustainability in Asia.
Organised by Argus Media and hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty), the conference is scheduled to take place from May 29 to 30 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
“I encourage all participants of this conference to engage in meaningful discussions, forge new collaborations, and identify actionable solutions that will shape Asia’s low-carbon future,” he said.
