KUCHING: The Graduates Enhancement Training Sarawak-Work Readiness Programme (GETS-WRP), a new initiative, has been introduced to equip graduates with essential industry skills, helping them transition seamlessly into the workforce.
Recognising the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, GETI Sarawak has developed a comprehensive training scheme focused on key sectors such as the digital economy, energy, finance, and government-linked industries, aligning with Sarawak’s long-term development plans by nurturing local talent for high-impact roles.
“This is more than just a training scheme. It’s about building a workforce that delivers results,” said Joseph Lim, the chief executive officer of Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE).
“By incorporating structured learning, industry exposure, and a performance-tracking approach, this initiative will play a crucial role in strengthening Sarawak’s talent pipeline.”
Despite Sarawak’s economic growth, many graduates continue to struggle securing employment due to skill mismatches, leading GETS-WRP to address the issue by offering targeted training, industry placements, and career guidance to enhance employability.
In collaboration with government linked companies (GLCs), statutory bodies and private sector partners, the programme covers leadership, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, entrepreneurship and communication, which are essential skills tailored to the state’s evolving economy, while also providing graduates with valuable practical experience through internships and project based learning to ensure they are prepared for employment upon completion.
As part of Sarawak’s broader commitment to human capital development, GETS-WRP facilitates job placements through Jobstreet.com and PERKESO MyFutureJobs, while networking sessions and industry engagements further enhance graduates’ employment prospects.
