SIBU: Florence Nervyn from Utusan Borneo made history last night (Apr 4) when she was elected as the new chairman of the Sibu Journalists Association (SJA) during its annual general meeting and election of new office bearers held at Li Hua Hotel, here.

She is the first Iban woman to hold the top post, taking over from Yii Souk Ming of See Hua Daily News for the 2025-2027 terms.

Mohd Alhadi Shamsawi from RTM was elected as vice-chairman, while Hii Hong Wee (Sin Chew Daily) is the new secretary.

Andy Sabang of Utusan Borneo takes on the role of vice-secretary.

Amyra Varkisa Kiai from Sarawak Tribune was elected as treasurer.

The committee members for the new term are Peter Wee (Sin Chew Daily), Helen Tang (See Hua Daily News), Yii, Philip Wong (Borneo Post), and Akun Giman (Utusan Sarawak).

Ling Lew Ching (Sin Chew Daily) was appointed as the association’s auditor.

At the AGM, the members also bid farewell to one of their dedicated members, former secretary Jane Moh, as she has left the world of journalism and started a new career.
