KUCHING: More women are given the opportunity to take up roles at the local government level in Sarawak.
Commenting on the Dalat and Mukah Districts Council (MDDM) members for the 2025-2028 term, Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said she was pleased to note that 34 per cent of the newly appointed councillors were women.

“I’m happy that at the Dalat and Mukah District Council, we are making progress in terms of women representatives at the local council level,” she told Sarawak Tribune today.

Fatimah, who is also the Dalat assemblywoman, witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of the 32 councillors for Dalat and Mukah districts yesterday.
She then expressed hope that such positive momentum could continue and be extended to other local councils throughout the state.
“It needs political will and an understanding of what social inclusivity can contribute to the wellbeing of our community and Sarawak as a whole,” she said.
Yesterday during the swearing-in ceremony, Fatimah reminded the councillors that their appointment was not only an honour but a great responsibility.
She thereby urged them to play their part in making Mukah Division cleaner, greener, more vibrant and safer.
Meanwhile, Arini@Aini Suhaili continues as Chairman of the Dalat and Mukah Districts Council for the new term, having also served in the role during the 2023-2025 term.
