KUCHING: Plans are being drawn up for the construction of a RM20 million Islamic Gallery at the Islamic Information Centre-Sarawak Islamic Council (IIC-MIS) here.
The project is currently in its final stages of discussion, according to Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
He said the gallery is expected to become a key landmark showcasing the history and development of Islam, particularly in Sarawak.
“In line with its name, the gallery will feature a concept focused on Sarawak’s development approach, especially involving the Muslim community, towards economic empowerment and strengthening the ummah.
“This concept will be tied to the philosophy of Ibn Khaldun,” he told the media when attending the IIC-MIS Hari Raya gathering here on Friday.
Dr Abdul Rahman added that the gallery will house scholarly works and historical materials related to Ibn Khaldun.
It will also feature information on the arrival of Islam in Sarawak, Islamic administration, and notable Islamic scholars from the past.
Earlier, Dr Abdul Rahman, together with MIS President, Datuk Misnu Taha, and IIC-MIS Acting Chief Executive Officer, Tazudin Mohtar, welcomed over 1,000 guests at the Hari Raya gathering held at IIC-MIS.
