KUCHING: Championing men’s health takes centre stage once again as the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) gears up to return to Kuching, uniting classic and vintage motorcycle enthusiasts for a meaningful cause.
Organised by Rouge Squadron Crew under the leadership of organising chairman Yen Dominick and supported by vice president Roger Laping, the event is part of a global movement held annually in cities around the world.
The DGR aims to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, with a focus on prostate cancer and mental health.
“This year, our vision remains focused—raising awareness on men’s prostate cancer and mental health.
“Many men tend to suffer in silence, suppressing their emotions and delaying necessary medical attention. This ride is our way of starting conversations that matter,” said Roger in a statement today (May 4).
Roger also expressed his gratitude on behalf of Rouge Squadron Crew for the community’s continued support, riding alongside them not just for the camaraderie but for the cause.
“We are especially grateful to Bear Garden for partnering with us this year as the official event venue.
“They have not only offered us a space to start and end the ride but also share our passion for supporting meaningful community projects,” he said.
According to Roger, riders and supporters have expressed heartfelt appreciation for the event and encouraged its continuation, particularly those impacted by cancer.
Funds raised through DGR registrations and donations are channelled through the international Movember Foundation, which supports research and treatment development for prostate cancer and initiatives to improve men’s mental health.
“Looking ahead, Rouge Squadron Crew is open to future collaborations with NGOs and local cancer support societies to amplify impact.
“We want to grow this beyond a one-day ride. Cancer knows no boundaries. Neither should awareness,” said Roger.
Roger also called on the government and local institutions to consider initiatives that promote early detection and mental health support, especially for men.
“With the right support and platforms, we believe we can make a greater difference—together,” he said.
