DUN opens fourth session with six key bills on the agenda

THE Fourth Session of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) officially opened today, marked by a ceremonial welcome and an address by Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Wan Junaidi, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, arrived at the DUN Complex at around 9:25 am, where they were received by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

The ceremonial proceedings began with Wan Junaidi inspecting a Guard of Honour mounted by 105 personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police and the General Operations Force (GOF), followed by the playing of the national anthem ‘Negaraku’ and the state anthem ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’.

Dignitaries and assembly members then proceeded to the DUN chamber for the Head of State’s opening address.

This session, scheduled to sit for eight days until May 28, will see the tabling of six bills by various ministers and deputy premiers.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas will table three bills: the Supplementary Supply Bill (2024) 2025, the Supplementary Supply Bill (2025) 2025, and the Development Infrastructure Trust Fund (Dissolution) Bill 2025.

The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (Amendment) Bill 2025 will be tabled by Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan will present the Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2025, while Deputy Premier cum Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, will table the Local Authorities (Amendment) Bill 2025.

The sitting is expected to deliberate on a range of policy updates, fiscal matters, and legislative improvements aimed at strengthening Sarawak’s governance and development path.
