MIRI: The proposal to establish an AFFIN Bank branch in Permyjaya here will be considered under the bank’s 2026 branch expansion plans.

Transport Minister and Senadin Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, suggested that a branch in Permyjaya would better serve the area’s growing population and business community.

He highlighted that Permyjaya and its surrounding areas currently have only one bank to cater to approximately 150,000 residents.

In addition to its large residential population, he noted that the area also has more than a thousand commercial premises, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), supermarkets, a private hospital, educational institutions, and schools.

“Given the size and rapid development of Permyjaya and its vicinity, there is a clear and pressing need for additional banking facilities.

“There have been a number of requests from the people in the area for another bank to set up a branch here in Permyjaya,” he said.

Lee made the remarks during a courtesy visit by Affin Bank’s Banking Director for Sarawak, Victor Liew Wui Tak, at his office in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN Sarawak) on Friday.

Following this, Lee also invited Affin Bank to consider setting up a service counter in Senadin to assist eligible residents in applying for the Affin Bank Kenyalang Debit Card.

He explained that the card, specially designed for Sarawakians, is available to those whose MyKad carries the ‘K’ code, requires no minimum deposit, and is exempt from annual fees for life.

“This initiative supports our broader efforts to improve financial access and inclusion for all Sarawakians,” he said.
