MERADONG: A total of 3,437 primary and secondary school students around Meradong received school bag donations through an ongoing initiative by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, who is also Repok assemblyman.

The programme was organised by the Sarikei Service Centre as a continuous effort to support the educational well-being of rural children.

This school bag donation initiative is a follow-up to the distribution of school uniforms and shoes carried out earlier this year for the 2025 school session.

This time, the focus was on distributing school bags, which is conducted once every two years as an addition to the annual aid of school uniforms and shoes.

Huang said the programme aims in ensuring every student goes to school with basic necessities such as a school bag, uniform, and shoes.

“This initiative is part of my ongoing commitment since being elected as a people’s representative,” he said during a handover ceremony represented by Gung Chiu Kion on Wednesday.

The distribution was carried out directly to students in several rural schools, including SJKC Ming Tee, SJKC Min Daik, SJKC Ming Ching, SMK Bandar Bintangor, SJKC Ming Lu, SJKC Ming Chiang, IPG Rajang Campus Preschool, SK Ulu Stras, SK Gemuan, SMK Meradong, SK Nanga Stras, SK Sungai Mador, and SK Ulu Binatang.
