BAU: Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol has acknowledged that he has yet to visit the Selampit Bridge construction site, explaining that his decision to stay hands-off was to allow the project to proceed without political interference.
He said he had chosen not to be too involved in the implementation phase of the project once it commenced.
“I have not visited the site yet. I try not to get involved so much because once I know the project has started, that’s it. I pray and hope that the project will be completed because there were so many issues before this,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters at the Penyerahan Bakul Rahmah Sempena Hari Gawai Dan Sesi Walkabout Program Jualan Rahmah Madani Bergerak P.192 Mas Gading N.02 Tasik Biru Tahun 2025 at Dewan Sri Singai here today (May 24).
When asked whether he had received any complaints from local community leaders, Mordi said no official complaints had reached him.
However, he admitted that he only recently learned that the project lacked proper signages indicating its start and completion dates.
“I just found out about this a few days ago,” he said.
For the record, the Selampit Bridge project in Opar is a long-awaited infrastructure development.
Once completed, the 200-metre-long and 6.5-metre-wide bridge will connect Kampung Selampit with the Kendaie-Selampit Road, greatly improving connectivity and safety for the surrounding communities.
The project was also one of Mordi’s most prominent campaign promises during the last two parliamentary elections.
He had repeatedly pledged to do his utmost to ensure the bridge would become a reality for the people of Mas Gading.
