KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) have formalised their strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange event held at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) recently.
Signed by UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, and SIDC Chairman, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, the five-year agreement outlines joint efforts to strengthen Sarawak’s capabilities in infectious disease research, biomedical innovation, and talent development.
In its statement, UNIMAS said the collaboration will facilitate joint research projects, product development, talent exchange and training programmes, as well as co-participation in international academic and industry platforms.
“The collaboration reflects Sarawak’s commitment to becoming a hub for translational biomedical research with global impact.
“This five-year agreement serves as a cornerstone for sustained collaboration between academia and research institutions, aligned with the state’s broader vision for science-driven development,” the statement added.
The exchange ceremony was witnessed by SIDC Chief Executive Officer, Associate Professor Dr Ivan Yap Kok Seng, and UNIMAS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dr Siti Noor Linda Talib.
