KUCHING: Sarawak’s volleyball scene received a significant boost as three coaches, Pang Sii Chuong, Angela Tang, and Stephanie Law, successfully completed the prestigious FIVB Coaches Course Level 2 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The course, held from May 12 to 16, the course brought together 33 participants from around the world, including representatives from Bangladesh, Croatia, Finland, India, Japan, Macao China, Maldives, Malaysia, Nepal, Russia, Singapore, Turkey, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, and host country Thailand.
Only 27 passed, and all three Sarawak coaches were among them.
When contacted today, Pang told Sarawak Tribune that the programme emphasised enhancing coaching knowledge through modern strategies in volleyball development.

“The main objective was to enhance coaching knowledge and techniques, focusing on modern strategies in volleyball development.
“It aimed to provide coaches with up-to-date tools to improve player performance, foster better team dynamics, and ensure long-term athlete development,” he said.
Among the key takeaways were the importance of tailoring training to a player’s developmental stage, and strengthening both physical and mental aspects of the game.
“I also learned new drills for improving serve-receive efficiency and offensive transitions.
“These insights have helped me refine my training sessions, making them more focused and efficient,” he added.
Pang also expressed his deep appreciation to Sarawak Volleyball Association Chairman, Datuk Moh Wung Ming, for supporting their participation.
“Many thanks to Datuk Moh Wung Ming for pushing us to attend this course. Without him, we wouldn’t have been there,” said Pang.
The Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) also played a key role, helping to cover part of the coaches’ expenses.
Looking ahead to SUKMA 2026 in Selangor, Pang and Tang, both full-time coaches with Sarawak State Sports Council, will lead the charge.
Pang will serve as the head coach for the boys’ team, while Tang will take charge of the girls’ team.
