BINTULU: A total of 1,000 tree saplings were planted at Similajau Forest Reserve on Saturday as part of a concerted effort to promote forest conservation and environmental sustainability.
The initiative marks a significant step in the ongoing commitment to preserving the natural heritage of the region.

The tree-planting programme was a collaborative effort between the Bintulu Regional Forestry Office and Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) Bintulu Branch.
Both organisations joined forces to ensure the success of this green endeavour, combining their resources and expertise for the benefit of the forest reserve.
In addition to planting new saplings, the programme also involved maintenance of 500 previously planted trees by SEB to ensure their healthy growth and long-term survival, reinforcing the initiative’s sustainability goals.
The planting exercise featured five carefully selected species of tropical forest trees, including 300 Bintangor Batang Putih, 300 Nyatoh Babi Daun Kecil, 400 Meranti Sarang Punai, 300 Meranti Tembaga, and 200 Meranti Tangkai Panjang Padi saplings, to enhance biodiversity within the reserve.
A total of 111 participants took part in the event, demonstrating strong community and organisational support.
Among them were 50 personnel from the Bintulu Regional Forestry Office and 61 from the SEB Bintulu Branch, all working together to protect and preserve the forest reserve’s delicate ecosystem.
