A bailey bridge will be installed across Sungai Baleh in Long Banga, Miri by the end of 2025, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Uggah said the Bailey bridge was allocated to the Sarawak government by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) following recent disasters that highlighted the urgent need for resilient infrastructure in remote areas.
“This bridge has been designed for installation at Sungai Baleh, Long Banga, Miri and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025,” he said.

He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly DUN) complex today.
Uggah also provided an overview of the state’s disaster response during the Northeast Monsoon 2024/2025 season, which ran from Nov 5, 2024 to Mar 25, 2025.
“Sarawak experienced widespread floods and landslides during this period, leading to the activation of 101 Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) that housed 5,037 heads of households and their families.
“A total of RM5.04 million in Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) assistance—RM1,000 per household—has been fully disbursed by NADMA. The Sarawak Welfare Department also provided essential supplies to those sheltering at PPS.
“Tragically, six lives were lost due to the disasters: five in a landslide at Kampung Lereng Bukit, Miri and one in a flood incident in Bintulu. Each bereaved family has received RM10,000 in BWI Kematian from NADMA,” he said.
Uggah also conveyed his condolences on behalf of the Sarawak government to the affected families.
He also expressed appreciation to the federal government for allocating RM10 million to repair damaged public infrastructure and an additional RM2.8 million for further BWI assistance.
“These contributions reflect the federal government’s ongoing commitment to the well-being of the people of Sarawak in times of need,” said Uggah.
