KUCHING: A district-wide narcotics sweep by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) has resulted in the arrest of 12 men after all of them tested positive for drugs.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 60, were rounded up during ‘Ops Cegah’ yesterday (June 20), which targeted several drug-prone areas across Kuching as part of the agency’s ongoing enforcement against substance abuse.

Among the locations raided were Tabuan Foochow, KMC Flats, Taman Malihah, Matang, Semariang Batu, Bandar Baru Semariang, Buntal, Satok, Desa Wira, Bako and several other areas within the district.

AADK Kuching said preliminary urine screening showed all 12 suspects had methamphetamine in their systems.

Ten of them are aged between 19 and 40 years old, while the remaining two are aged 41 and 60.

All of the suspects have been detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for further action.

The agency stated that they remain committed to intensifying prevention, enforcement and rehabilitation efforts to curb drug abuse and ensure communities remain free from the threat of illicit drugs.
