KUCHING: Two repeat offenders have been arrested over a snatch robbery in Stampin, with police recovering the victim’s belongings and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.

The incident occurred at around 9.45 am on June 11, outside a shop in Taman BDC Stampin along Jalan Stutong.

Acting on gathered intelligence and investigations, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) tracked down the two local suspects, aged 24 and 27, in separate operations on June 13 and June 18.

Background checks found that both men have several prior criminal records, and urine screening tests found them positive for drugs.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said police also seized several items believed to belong to the victim, as well as a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle suspected of having been used to carry out the snatch robbery.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

He urged the public to remain vigilant by taking extra security precautions, including installing CCTV cameras and alarm systems, while ensuring doors and gates are locked, especially at night.

Members of the public are advised to report any suspicious activities to Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) at 082-244444.
