DEPUTY Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has called upon all parties not to politicise the Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS)-Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) issue.
Uggah, who is also the Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, said that all must respect the law.
“Understand that this move is reasonable, legitimate, and made in the interest of Sarawak’s long-term development.
“This is not a competition; it’s about partnership and progress for Sarawak and Malaysia,” he said.
He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
Uggah also urged not to misinterpret’s Sarawak’s stand in regard to its oil and gas rights.

“To those who disagree or feel that Sarawak is asking for too much, let me say this: Do not misinterpret our intentions.
“We are not here to deprive anyone. We want Malaysia to succeed – together.
“We are committed to the spirit of the Federation, and we believe in a shared prosperity where no one is left behind,” he said.
He also expressed support and the stand taken by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, in accordance with Sarawak State Laws and the constitutional spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) where PETROS has the right to be appointed as the sole gas aggregator in Sarawak.
“This is not merely a policy preference; it is our inalienable right under Sarawak’s legal framework.
“Our position is grounded in the Oil Mining Ordinance (OMO) 1958; the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report 1963 and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“These laws and agreements affirms Sarawak’s jurisdiction over its natural resources, including oil and gas. We are not overstepping; we are acting well within our legal rights,” he said.
He added PETROS is more than just a company.
It is our torchbearer, our economic vehicle, and a symbol of Sarawak’s self-determination.
“Its leadership consists of highly competent Sarawakians, professionals with vast experience in the oil and gas sector.
“These individuals are driven not by profit, but by purpose – to serve Sarawak’s interest, to manage our resources responsibly, and to ensure that the benefits are shared with all Sarawakians,” he said.
Uggah also expressed his appreciation to the federal government, especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for his willingness to engage constructively regarding the oil and gas matters in the state.
“The recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Prime Minister and the Premier shows that collaboration and mutual respect can lead to win-win outcomes,” he said.
