A total of RM464.5 million has been distributed to 758,483 recipients through the Sarawak Government’s e-wallet, S Pay Global, an initiative that not only eases the rising cost of living but also stimulates household spending and supports local economic growth, particularly benefiting small traders and retail entrepreneurs.

This was announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

“Our development efforts are not limited to physical infrastructure alone.

“We are equally focused on enhancing the socioeconomic well-being of all communities, so that every Sarawakian can share in the fruits of progress,” he emphasised.

“The Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS) is designed to directly assist our people in coping with everyday expenses, while also driving economic activity at the grassroots level.”

Since its launch earlier this year, SKAS has made a meaningful impact on the daily lives of Sarawakians by alleviating the burden of living costs and encouraging increased household spending.

“Beyond financial support, SKAS has accelerated digital adoption among village committees, youth groups, and women’s bureaus,” the Premier said.

“We have seen these organisations use digital platforms to better manage activities, disseminate information, and promote local products online, which is a positive step towards a digitally inclusive society.”

Initially concentrated in urban areas, the use of the S Pay Global e-wallet has now expanded into rural communities, enhancing the efficiency and visibility of local organisations and fostering greater participation in the digital economy.

“Our vision is to cultivate a digitally literate society, one that is not only comfortable with technology but is also prepared to adapt to the ever-changing digital landscape.

“This is vital for Sarawak’s continued growth and competitiveness in the modern world,” he said.
