PUSA: The Mantar Gawai Dayak celebration for the Beting Maro constituency was held in a lively atmosphere at Munggu Ruan Longhouse, Muton Undai, recently.

The event was organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Undai in collaboration with the Beting Maro constituency service centre, the Batang Lupar parliamentary service centre, and the Pusa District Office.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Batang Lupar Member of Parliament, Mohamad Shafizan Kepli, and Beting Maro Assemblyman, Razaili Gapor.

In his speech, Shafizan emphasised the importance of unity among Sarawak’s diverse ethnic groups, which was especially evident during festive seasons like Gawai Dayak.

“Gawai Dayak is not only celebrated by the Iban community but also by the Malay and Chinese communities. This proves the strong unity that exists in this state,” he said.

Shafizan added that longhouse communities should make full use of the facilities provided by the government, especially in terms of development and education.

According to him, the successful launch of the Batang Saribas Bridge on May 25 was a historic moment for the Pusa district, opening up greater opportunities in both economic and social aspects for the local residents.

“This is one of the Sarawak Government’s initiatives for rural folk and we are grateful to the Premier of Sarawak for this effort,” he added.

He also reminded everyone not to take safety matters lightly during the Gawai festive season.

Meanwhile, Razaili, in his speech, expressed his appreciation to the organisers and the people of Munggu Ruan Longhouse for the successful hosting of the event.

“We are very grateful that all the activities were held in peace and harmony, reflecting the unity that is the greatest asset of the people of Sarawak,” he said.

Razaili also stressed that public support for the state government’s leadership was crucial to ensure continuous development.

“The Premier of Sarawak is a capable leader who has brought progress to this state. The people must continue to support an administration that has proven its success,” he said.

In addition, he encouraged the people of Beting Maro to continue developing the local agriculture sector, including through government-supported crops such as nipah palm, coconut and sago, which were currently prioritised by the state government.
