SIBU: Efforts to enhance youth development here received a further boost as the Sibu Divisional Youth and Sports Office (PBSB) and the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Sibu Campus moved to strengthen strategic collaboration aimed at expanding opportunities for youth leadership, skills development and volunteerism.

The initiative was highlighted through a site visit and strategic discussion held at the UNIMAS Sibu Campus on Thurday, focusing on the utilisation of the university’s facilities and exploring collaborative opportunities that could further empower youth development at the grassroots level.

The PBSB Sibu delegation was led by Divisional Youth and Sports officer Nur Fatheen Khairuzan Seleman.

During the visit, the delegation toured various facilities available at the campus, including tutorial rooms, seminar halls, computer laboratories, the library, cafeteria and student accommodation facilities.

These facilities were identified as having strong potential to serve as venues for a wide range of youth development programmes, including leadership training, skills enhancement initiatives, volunteer activities and capacity-building programmes designed to equip young people with relevant knowledge and practical experience.

Apart from inspecting the facilities, both parties also engaged in discussions on the implementation of collaborative programmes, expertise-sharing initiatives, optimal use of facilities and greater involvement of university students in community-based programmes organised by PBSB Sibu.

The strategic partnership is expected to generate significant benefits for youth human capital development by improving access to learning and training facilities, while strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and government agencies in delivering community development initiatives.

At the same time, the collaboration is set to create more opportunities for young people to develop their potential through participation in leadership, volunteerism and personal development programmes, helping to nurture a generation that is competent, resilient and future-ready.

The initiative is in line with ongoing efforts to build an inclusive, sustainable and community-oriented youth development ecosystem, ensuring that young people continue to play a vital role as drivers of the nation’s progress.
