BINTANGOR: In the spirit of Gawai Dayak, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing and his wife, Datin Kueh Nai Fun, visited longhouses across the constituency to mark the celebration and strengthen ties with the local community.
The visit, held today (June 4), was organised by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bintangor branch and covered areas including Sungai Rayah, Sungai Sekijang Labas, and Ulu Stras.
Despite the celebration entering its third day, the festive atmosphere remained vibrant with cultural activities involving residents of all ages.
During the visit, Ding engaged directly with longhouse chiefs and residents, listening to their concerns and feedback. Among the key issues raised were the need for improved basic infrastructure and the welfare of rural communities.
He reassured the community that the Sarawak government has introduced various forms of assistance to support the people, including the Kenyalang Gold Card, Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS), Senior Citizens Health Benefit Scheme (SCHB), Maternity Assistance (BIB), and the Sarawak Endowment Fund (EFS).
In addition, Ding also shared updates on the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), which will be implemented in 2026.
As part of the celebration, he also participated in community activities and attended wedding ceremonies at Rumah Keded, Ulu Stras and Rumah Sukin, Sungai Sekijang Labas.
