MIRI: The spirit of compassion and community will take centre stage this weekend as Miri gears up for its inaugural Miri City Blood Donor Day 2025, a landmark event honouring the life-saving generosity of local blood donors.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, June 8, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Gymkhana Club Miri (GCM).

Miri Mayor, Adam Yii Siew Sang, will grace the event as the guest of honour, underscoring the importance of voluntary blood donation in ensuring public health and emergency readiness.

“Organised by the Miri City Caring Society in collaboration with eight community-based organisations, the initiative brings together a diverse cross-section of Miri’s civil society, including the Gymkhana Club Miri, Miri Piasau Community Welfare Association, Persatuan Wanita Petroleum Miri, Miri Indian Association, Inner Wheel Club of Miri, Rotary Club of Miri Oiltown, Moving Communities and the Miri Punjabi Association,” according to a press statement by the Miri City Caring Society today.

“This campaign marks an incredible 36 years of non-remunerated voluntary blood donation in Miri.

“It reflects a legacy of kindness, compassion and an unwavering commitment to community well-being.

“Our theme ‘Give blood, give hope: together we save lives’ speaks to the heart of what this movement is about,” it said.

The campaign is made possible, thanks to generous partial sponsorship from Liansin Sdn Bhd, CLATECH, and DK Photography.

Additional support includes BEST Hearing Aid Centre, which will provide free hearing tests, and Alpro Clinic, which will facilitate PeKa B40 registration and free blood screening registration for eligible senior citizens.

With the festive season approaching and hospitals in constant need of blood supplies, the public is encouraged to participate in this noble cause.

Every donation can make a life-saving difference.

Join the movement, save a life because when we give blood, we give hope.
