KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has allocated RM50,000 from his constituency fund this year to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sarawak Branch for the purchase of a new, fully equipped ambulance.

The grant aims to enhance MRCS’s emergency response capabilities and acknowledges the organisation’s long-standing service to the community.

Dr Yii described the funding as “more than just financial assistance,” but also a gesture of appreciation for the Red Crescent’s tireless efforts, particularly by its volunteers and emergency response teams.

“This new ambulance, once operational, will further enhance their capacity to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook today.

In addition to this year’s funding, Dr Yii also pledged another RM50,000 next year to support MRCS’s broader community and humanitarian initiatives.

“An ambulance, in itself, is just a vehicle. But in the hands of dedicated volunteers and frontline personnel, it becomes a beacon of hope,” he added, expressing his commitment to strengthening collaboration with MRCS in public health, social welfare, and emergency preparedness.

Dr Yii also called on the public, corporate bodies, and civil society to support humanitarian organisations like the Red Crescent through donations, volunteering, or advocacy, emphasising the importance of collective efforts in building a safer and more resilient Sarawak.
