SIBU: The Sarawak Immigration Department has arrested 84 individuals of various nationalities following wee hour raids at two locations yesterday (Jun 18).
Following weeks of gathered intelligence, the department’s Special Task Force (PTK) carried out the operation, codenamed Ops Gegar and Ops Sapu, between midnight and 3.30 am.
Two premises were raided — an entertainment centre and a shophouse believed to be used for harbouring foreign nationals.
The team inspected a total of 110 individuals for their documentation and of the figure, 84 foreigners, including 17 women, were taken into custody for committing various immigration offences.




The detainees, comprising 63 Pakistanis, 20 Indonesians and one Myanmar, have since been sent to the Immigration Detention Depot for further action.
They are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for abusing their travel or work permits, overstaying, and did not possess any valid permits.
Sarawak Immigration Department director Abdul Halim Abang Naili said enforcement operations will continue to be carried out to uphold the law and safeguard national sovereignty.
“We will not compromise with those who violate immigration laws.
“Employers, business operators, and the public are urged not to harbour or conspire with undocumented migrants as actions can and will be taken without exception,” he said in a statement.
Abdul Halim assured that the department remains committed to conducting ongoing enforcement efforts to curb the presence of illegal migrants across the state.
