SIBU: PETROS has officially launched its first multifuel station at Brooke Drive here today (June 20).

The station is owned by Emparia Sendiran Berhad (Emparia) and it was officially launched by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.

Speaking at the auspicious occasion, Tiang thanked the company for taking the initiative, having the courage, and believing in the potential of Sibu.

“This station isn’t just a business — it’s a service to the local community and a sign of real progress for our town.

“I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the important role of SEDC Energy for their hard work and commitment in developing the PETROS multifuel station network across Sarawak, and for their bigger mission of building sustainable energy infrastructure in our state.

“Today’s milestone proves that great things can happen when local companies step up, and when the government and business stakeholders work together with the same goal, which is to move Sarawak forward,” he stated.

He pointed out that Sarawak’s journey to be a developed state by the year 2030 was not just a slogan, but a real vision.

Tiang stressed that to make the vision come true, there must be a strong support from small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“SMEs are the heart of the state economy which can create jobs, keep the local economy moving, and help to bring development to every corner of Sarawak, including rural areas like Kapit, Mukah, Lawas and others — not just the city areas of Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri,” he said.

He affirmed the Sarawak government is committed to helping SMEs grow, by giving better access to funding, improve infrastructure, support digital adoption, and open up new markets.

On PETROS, he said this newly opened multifuel station was part of a bigger story — the story of Sarawak standing tall, taking charge of its own oil and gas resources.

“PETROS, as many of you know, was set up not just to do business, but to protect our rights. Sarawak has always had special powers under the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963, and we are using those powers wisely for the interests and benefits of all Anak Sarawak,” he said.

“Thanks to the leadership of our Premier and the state government, Sarawak now has stronger control over its oil and gas industry. That means we can decide what’s best for us, make sure more value stays in the state, and most importantly give more opportunities to our own people.

“This autonomy gives us the ability to build better schools, free tertiary education next year for Sarawakians, improve healthcare, invest in roads, build 16 bridges all over Sarawak and enhance digital infrastructure. All these developments help SMEs in the state to succeed.

“This PETROS station is more than just a fuel station. It’s a symbol of what Sarawak can achieve when we believe in ourselves; when we take ownership; and when our people, our businesses, and our government all work together,” Tiang, who is also Pelawan assemblyman, added.

Among those present at the ceremony was Emparia’s managing director, David Tiang.
