Outpouring of respect as public attends Premier’s wife’s funeral

KUCHING: Members of the public turned up in large numbers to pay their final respects to the late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Haji Bujang, the wife of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, during funeral rites held at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak today (June 23).

The atmosphere was solemn as people from all walks of life, including civil servants, community leaders, and ordinary citizens, gathered to honour the late Juma’ani, known for her humility, kindness, and quiet dedication to charitable causes.

Many arrived early at the mosque to join the congregational solat jenazah, led by mosque officials, as a final gesture of respect for the late Juma’ani.

Also in attendance were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and Federal-State Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang; Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang; State Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata; Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen; and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong were also in attendance.

Juma’ani passed away peacefully in the early hours of today (June 23) at 3.44 am, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and quiet service to Sarawak’s communities, particularly in women’s welfare and empowerment.

After the funeral prayers, her remains will be laid to rest at the Semariang Muslim Cemetery later in the afternoon.
