Indonesian jailed eight months for escaping police custody

SIBU: An Indonesian man was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here on Wednesday for escaping from lawful custody.

Magistrate Oon Kerk Chern imposed the sentence on the accused, named as only Buni, 25 after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to the charge, he had on June 21, at about 4 pm at Sibu Central Police Station, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, being lawfully detained by a police officer, and while being escorted from Central Police Station to the lockup, he did intentionally escaped from lawful custody, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 224 of the Penal Code. The accused was subsequently arrested at a house along Jalan Terap.

Magistrate Oon ordered that the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department for further action after completing his imprisonment sentence.
