KUCHING: Sarawak Energy celebrated the dedication and achievements of its retired employees at the Sarawak Energy Retirees Dinner 2025 last Friday.

The event recognised the retirees’ contributions to the organisation’s growth as a regional leader in renewable energy, and also served to strengthen bonds among former colleagues.

Representing the Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, the event was officiated by Ir James Ung, Group Chief Operating Officer, who delivered an address to more than 370 retirees and 308 family members gathered for the occasion.

“You built the foundation of Sarawak Energy, shaping who we are today.

“Sarawak Energy will continue to grow, guided by its roadmap to becoming a renewable energy powerhouse for Sarawak and the region.

“The legacy you have left behind forms the bedrock of this ambition and the culture of excellence you instilled continues to shape our journey forward,” he said.

While acknowledging retirees as valued stakeholders whose experience enriches Sarawak Energy’s long-term vision and resilience, James also encouraged them to remain connected with the organisation.

“We hope you will all continue to stay connected with us, whether on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok, and remain our ambassadors in your communities.

“You are, and always will be, part of the Sarawak Energy family,” he said.

With a workforce of over 6,000 employees, predominantly Sarawakians, Sarawak Energy continues to focus on uplifting communities, championing sustainability and advancing regional energy cooperation.

James also highlighted that Sarawak Energy’s flagship biennial platform, the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF), scheduled for Sep 3 to 4 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, will continue to drive important discussions on the region’s energy transition.

Meanwhile, the evening included a heartfelt tribute to Sarawak Energy’s most senior retirees – Tan Boon Hua, who retired in 1988 after 27 years of service, and Ahmad Zaini, who retired in 1993 after 25 years with the organisation.
