KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching is currently supporting a struggling widow in Batu Kawah New Township (MJC) with basic food items and milk powder for her youngest son, who suffers from severe asthma.

The non-governmental organisation (NGO), which supports more than 65 underprivileged single mothers with schooling children in the city, began assisting Sim Pei Pei, 39, following the sudden death of her husband in April this year.

Pei Pei now faces the burden of raising three children aged between two and 11 on her own, while earning a minimum wage as a clinic assistant at a private clinic along Rubber Road.

To ensure her children are cared for after school, Pei Pei hires a daytime nanny, costing her RM850 per month – a financial stretch she endures due to limited job options and the need for childcare.

Though she currently stays rent-free at a shop-lot owned by her late husband’s sister, Pei Pei still has to cover utility bills, along with frequent hospital visits and medication for her youngest son’s asthma.

She has applied for social welfare aid and is relying on Hope Place’s monthly assistance to help ease her financial struggles.

Those who wish to support Pei Pei and other families under Hope Place’s care may contact the organisation at 082-505987 or 013-5672775.

Donations can also be made to MBB account 511289001160 or through Sarawak Pay / S Pay Global via the QR code on their Facebook page.
