KUCHING: Iconic soft rock duo Air Supply is set to perform live at SBC Hall Kuching on September 24 as part of their 50th Anniversary Celebration Tour, promising an unforgettable experience for fans in Sarawak and the wider region.
Founded in 1975, Air Supply is internationally renowned for timeless ballads, such as ‘All Out of Love’, ‘Lost in Love’ and ‘Making Love Out of Nothing at All’.
Their Kuching concert forms part of their Southeast Asia tour in celebration of five decades in the music industry.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, described the upcoming performance as a rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that music lovers should not miss.
“These are not rojak-rojak ones, this is the actual Air Supply,” he said during a press conference held at The Spring Mall here today.
Reflecting on his personal memories, Abdul Karim shared that he attended Air Supply’s first concert in Malaysia four decades ago while he was a university student.
“That was when Air Supply was still new. But now, 40 years later, they’ve produced so many platinum albums, and their songs are very familiar to our ears,” he said.
He encouraged the public to get their tickets early, noting that this might be the last chance to see Air Supply live in Sarawak.
“This is the kind of music you’ve been hearing in your car or on the radio, but the atmosphere is completely different when it’s live.
“I saw them 40 years ago. I’m not sure they’ll be here for another 20 years,” he added.
He also emphasised that the concert would not only delight local fans but is expected to attract visitors from the region, giving a boost to Sarawak’s tourism sector.
“There will be many coming from Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, West Malaysia, and I was informed there are even enquiries from the Philippines.
“With new and existing flights from cities like Pontianak, Jakarta and Singapore, Kuching is well-positioned to host this international crowd,” he said.
The concert is organised by Twig Events.
Tickets are now available at www.twig.events, with prices ranging from RM358 to RM888.
Also present at the event were Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I (Tourism), Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew; Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts II (Creative Industry and Performing Arts), Datuk Snowdan Lawan; Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation), Datuk Hii Chang Kee; and Twig Events Director, Deborah Tai.
