BAU: Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd (F&N) has launched a RM50,000 water conservation and distribution project at Bung Jagoi Heritage Village, aimed at improving clean water access and supporting ecotourism efforts in the area.

F&N’s Director of Communications, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Karen Tan, said the initiative reflects the group’s long-standing ties and commitment to Sarawak.

She said Sarawak holds a special place in the group’s journey, as the company established its first plant in Kuching in 1966.

“Through efforts like the water conservation programme at Bung Jagoi, we are proud to give back to the communities that have supported us for nearly six decades.

“We also want to express our heartfelt appreciation to the media in Sarawak, whose continued support helps bring our stories to life and strengthens the bonds we have built across the state,” she said in a statement.

Tasik Biru Assemblyman, who is also the Deputy Transport Minister, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, was present to witness the handover ceremony today.

Implemented in collaboration with the Jagoi Heritage Association (JHA) through its Jagoi Area Development Committee (JADC), the project includes a new water pump system that draws water from Ayak Tibodak and repairs to water storage tanks.

The system is expected to restore up to 5.475 million litres of water annually, benefiting villagers and enhancing sustainability efforts in the 1,000-hectare Jagoi Heritage Forest.

JADC Chairman, Professor Dr Gabriel Tonga Noweg, said the programme helps uplift the community’s aspirations while respecting indigenous traditions.

“This programme uplifts our community’s aspiration through clean water access, and by unlocking the potential of ecotourism in a way that honours our traditions,” he was quoted as saying.

F&N’s water project is part of its broader environmental and community upliftment efforts, which also include forest rehabilitation.

The group currently operates two manufacturing plants in Kuching and Matang, along with four sales offices across the state, employing over 200 Sarawakians.

F&N has also contributed to Sarawak through flood relief efforts, festive donations, and by being a Gold Sponsor for the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA (Malaysia Para Games).

Through these continued efforts, the company said it remains committed to Sarawak’s development while honouring the land and its people.
