KUCHING: Police have successfully dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate in Kota Sentosa here, seizing an estimated RM3.07 million worth of drugs.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) Director, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, said the operation was carried out on July 19, at around 8:50 pm by a joint team from Bukit Aman NCID and the Sarawak Police Contingent.
Two suspects aged between 25 and 27 were arrested inside a car parked by the roadside.
“A search of the vehicle uncovered a black bag and three brown boxes, containing 80 green packages labelled ‘Guanyingwang’.
“Each package held a transparent plastic bag filled with crystal-like substances suspected to be methamphetamine (syabu).
“The drugs are estimated to be worth RM3.07 million,” Hussein told a press conference at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters on Monday.

He added that the seized syabu could potentially harm over 415,000 individuals. Police also confiscated RM1,100 in cash, bringing the total value of seized items to RM3.072 million.
Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until July 27, and are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
Preliminary urine tests revealed that one suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Criminal background checks also showed one suspect had three prior offences under the Common Gaming Houses Act and one case under Section 182 for providing false information.
Hussein revealed that the syndicate’s modus operandi involved using a car to deliver pre-ordered drugs to designated locations.
The vehicle would then be left unlocked, allowing the buyer to collect the drugs and distribute them elsewhere.
He added that the syndicate is believed to have been active since early this year, and most of the seized drugs were intended for distribution to neighbouring countries.
