KUCHING: The 2025 Women’s Day celebration (HW25) to be held for the first time at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex, will be held in a modest manner.
Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this is in respect of the passing of Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, the wife of the Premier.
“On the celebration, the selection of DUN Sarawak as the main venue is highly significant, as it represents the state’s highest legislative institution and the voice of the people.
“Holding the celebration in this prestigious building is not merely symbolic, but a formal expression of appreciation for women and recognition that their leadership and contributions are key pillars in the state’s progress,” she said during the UKAS Juh Randau talk show on Monday (July 28).
The celebration, which is scheduled to take place on Aug 2, will gather around 1,700 guests physically and will also be broadcast live to 45 districts across the state.
“This year’s theme, ‘Diversity, Equality, Equity & Inclusivity (D2EI)’, was chosen in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and the direction of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which emphasises inclusive development and ensuring no one is left behind,” she said.
She added that this year’s celebration would highlight the role of women not only as the backbone of families but also as leaders, community builders and agents of change who contributed directly to the state’s progress.
“In addition, there will be participation of diverse societal groups, inclusive stage performances, and the launch of the book ‘Sarawak Women Creating Legacies’ — a book that compiles inspirational stories of Sarawakian women in various fields,” she said.
Fatimah alluded that the highlight of HW25 would be the presentation of the Sarawak Premier’s Awards, which recognise outstanding women in the categories of Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Social Advocacy, Young Leaders, Outstanding NGOs and Women-Friendly Policies — a true testament to Sarawak’s commitment in valuing women’s contributions.
