KOTA SAMARAHAN: A fire that broke out at an unused landfill in Kampung Plaie last Sunday (July 28) continues to burn as firefighting efforts enter their fourth day.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) Chairman, Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, confirmed the incident, saying the fire was first reported on July 27 and immediately triggered a joint response involving the Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station and other supporting agencies.

“The situation has been challenging due to hot and dry weather conditions, the absence of access roads, and limited water sources near the site,” he said in his recent statement.

He added that thick smoke has continued to affect nearby areas, particularly Kampung Sungai Batu, raising concerns among residents.

“Despite the obstacles, firefighting operations remain active, with heavy machinery such as excavators, bulldozers and fire engines deployed on-site.

“We have also dispatched two water tankers to support the operation,” he added.

He urged members of the public to avoid entering the affected area for safety reasons.

“We urge residents to cooperate with the authorities and allow them to carry out the firefighting operations effectively,” he said.
