SEBAUH: Students in Sarawak, especially those from rural areas, need to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills to play a key role in the state’s development, particularly as Bintulu has been designated a Transitioning Industrial Cluster.

According to Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, the selection of Bintulu as a Transitioning Industrial Cluster proves the state government’s commitment in making the area a hub for future industrial development.

“This means that this sector requires a workforce with knowledge in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as well as in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).”

Dr Rundi said this when officiating the Project of Dream Realised Roadshow (Pro-DR) Sebauh 2025 which took place at the SMK Sebauh hall, recently.

He added that the Pro-DR programme organised by the state government is a crucial platform that provides useful information to students in shaping their ambitions and clearer career pathways.

“You must have ambition, know what you want to become one day, and recognise current demands so you are prepared to become valuable assets with high employability upon graduation.”

In this regard, he called on students to make smart use of global platforms to explore fields aligned with their talents and potential, in addition to mastering both English and Malay to support today’s digital learning environment.

“Digital languages now mostly utilise English, so if students are proficient in both languages, it gives them a better advantage in competing at a higher level.”

He also stressed the state government’s efforts in strengthening the development of rural education as part of the inclusive and sustainable regional development agenda.
