MIRI: A double-storey home in Taman Tunku sustained significant damage in the early hours of Monday morning after a fire broke out in the living room, sending plumes of smoke into the dawn sky and prompting a swift response from local firefighters.
The blaze, which began around 5.58 am at a residence along Jalan Lintang 1, tore through nearly half of the house before it was brought under control by crews from the Miri and Lopeng Fire and Rescue Stations.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, the property suffered roughly 50 percent damage, with the living room bearing the brunt of the destruction.
Led by senior fire officer Abdul Rahman Rosliee, a total of 15 firefighters were deployed to the scene.
Firefighters from the Miri Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) tackled the flames using a hose reel and a 700-foot line from a nearby hydrant, while their counterparts from Lopeng BBP mounted a defensive operation from the side of the house, deploying two additional nozzles and a second hose reel to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Two fire engines and two Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) units were involved in the operation, which ended after the firefighters ensured the site was fully secure.
