KUCHING: The International Borneo Innovation, Expo and Conference (IBIEC) 2025 concluded on a high note this week, celebrating not only a vibrant showcase of ideas and technology but also a strong commitment to preparing Sarawak’s next generation of innovators, educators and digital leaders.

The event saw more than 280 participants from schools and institutions of higher learning across Sarawak and abroad, significantly surpassing its initial target of 200 entries.

Led by polytechnic institutions, the event received praise for its organisation and leadership.

Telian assemblyman Royston Valentine described IBIEC as “more than just an exhibition,” calling it a strategic platform that nurtures young Sarawakians to explore, create and lead in the fields of innovation, technology and education.

“This is a great event for innovation. We’ve seen students, from as young as primary school to university level, engaging with real-world solutions and global collaboration,” he said during a press conference here, Wednesday (Aug 6).

He stressed that international collaboration and cross-border knowledge exchange were key elements of the event’s success.

“When we collaborate with international institutions, we not only export our strengths, we also bring in fresh expertise and new ideas to benefit Sarawak.

“It’s about expanding our network and exposing our students to what lies beyond our borders.”

Royston noted that events like IBIEC are aligned with Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which aims to develop a skilled and future-ready workforce by 2030.

“Programmes like IBIEC, from conventions to competitions, are powerful tools in preparing our youth for a fast-changing global landscape.

“They are the ones who will lead Sarawak into a progressive future.”

He added that educational platforms like IBIEC are essential in bridging gaps between local and global knowledge, providing Sarawak’s youth with the exposure and competencies they need to thrive.

“Our youth are eager to learn and hungry for opportunity. We need to start grooming them now, with education, hands-on exposure and skills that matter.”

Royston also acknowledged the teamwork behind the scenes, thanking the polytechnic institutions and supporting agencies for their tireless efforts in making the programme a success.

“The success of IBIEC 2025 is the result of strong collaboration between local institutions and international partners.

“If we continue to provide platforms like this, there’s no doubt Sarawak’s youth will be a driving force in the state’s development.”
