SARATOK: Police have arrested an unemployed man in connection with a house break-in here last month, during which a registered shotgun and a gas cylinder were stolen.

Saratok District Police chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, said the suspect, 27, was picked up by a team from its Criminal Investigation Division at a longhouse room in Awik here on August 5 at 9:00 am.

The arrest followed a report lodged by a 68-year-old vegetable seller who returned home with his wife on July 13 to find the main door lock of their house at Bukit Kumpang pried open, and the interior ransacked with several items missing.

“Stolen items included a shotgun belonging to the complainant, which was kept in the bedroom and a yellow gas cylinder from the kitchen. The total loss was estimated at RM5,000,” he said in a statement.

He added that the suspect, who tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, later led investigators to the stolen items on August 7.

“The suspect said he took the items from the PPRT house in Semurin and hid them by the roadside, near an electric pole, Mile 3, Jalan Roban Lama.

“Acting on the information, the Criminal Investigation Division team, guided by the suspect, arrived at the location the same day and found the shotgun parts in a gunny bag and the gas cylinder hidden in bushes near an electric pole by the roadside.

“The items have been seized for further investigation. The suspect, who has a previous criminal record under Section 147 of the Penal Code, has been remanded for further investigation,” he said.
